Construction and Tech Companies

This is the end of week 11 at The Iron Yard in St. Pete, and our entire academic experience has been characterized by ongoing (and very loud) construction to the building around us. This is because, like a good tech company, The Iron Yard moved into a neat old building downtown, but of course to have real tenants in a run-down old building you need to spend time and energy refurbishing it.

I had the opportunity this week to see a couple of these new Tampa Bay area tech spaces, from a Python meetup on Tuesday at the new Tampa Bay Wave space at, like Kennedy and Morgan, to a Ruby Brigade meetup in Carrollwood, to the downtown St. Pete building now hosting One Million Cups, and they all share that ongoing construction characteristic.

There’s a metaphor about the way that new tech disrupts and builds at the same time in there somewhere.
